We had never been to a railroad car diner, so decided to make the three hour drive to the Runaway Train Cafe in Brownwood, TX. The solitary structure on this side of the road, the silver train car is very much like what we had imagined. Inside, the seats are newly upholstered, aluminum tabletop were all clean. Service was fantastic and the food was awesome. Seriously, everything we ordered was very good. The owner/manager heard we drove three hours just to eat here, so she came over and introduced herself. She checked on us several times to make sure we had what we needed. Can't recommend this experience enough!
Started with nice atmosphere. Then got better with waitress that wad on her first day. And to top it off, food wad awesome. One of the best tasting hamburgers I've ever had. Very fresh, did not taste frozen. 5 stars.
$6.99 for the hot ham and cheese was a over priced for how skimpy they were on the meat. My husband had a big delicious burger and fries for the same price. The waitress apologized when I said something about it before eating. Then while paying the cashier said they could have got me more meat if I had asked. It tasted good however and my husband shared his fries with me so I wouldn’t be hungry; husband loved the burger and fries were fantastic! All in all, would visit again, just get a burger though.
Every single recommendation our server Macy made was spot on! The house made ranch was delicious, fries, club, and shake was superb! I could not have dreamt of a better eating experience!
